Christian Psychology
Christian psychology is the practice of psychology with an emphasis on faith. Psychologists in this line of work still deal with many of the same problems that can happen in daily life including abuse, addiction, relationships, loss, and stress, however they also focus on strengthening beliefs in people who may have lost their way, spiritually speaking.
Most Christian psychology centers offer clinical services (including group therapy, testing, assessments, and educational testing), Education and Prevention programs (grief support, divorce recovery, sexual addiction recovery, premarital counseling, and other workshops), and Training (for those within the church who want to become better counselors).
Many Christian psychology offices are staffed with licensed psychologists, clinical social workers, and licensed professional counselors. They are committed to help individuals and families cope and overcome any obstacles that may be in their paths through a series of sessions. Many of these offices have group therapy that meets weekly during the days, on weekends or in the evenings, as sometimes having others who can relate to you can be comforting, and can help people move on from their troubles faster.
If you are considering a career in Christian psychology, you may want to earn a degree in Psychology with a minor in religious studies or biblical studies or vice-versa. A bachelor’s degree is a good start, however most of the people who are staffed in these locations also have a master’s or even a doctorate degree. Please refer to your state requirements to see if licensing is necessary and the prerequisites involved.
