What is a bible college?

Saturday, August 22, 2009 posted by Robert Jackson

There are many types of higher learning institutions, based on the specialization of curriculum. A Bible college is one type of higher education institution that has a Bible-based curriculum.

A Bible college is different from that of other standard colleges or liberal arts institutions because that it does not offer liberal arts, science, or business courses. It is also different from seminaries because it does not offer courses that delve into the study of philosophy and concepts behind various theological tenets. They also differ from faith-based colleges because the latter offer conventional courses.

The main focus of a Bible college is to prepare individuals for Christian ministry. Aside from the Bible-based curriculum, students are also prepared for Christian service. Typical course offerings are associate’s degrees, diplomas, or bachelor’s degrees on ministry-related fields. Other colleges offer studies on Christian education or Church music. There are also colleges that offer graduate studies on these ministry-related fields.

There are over 1,000 Bible colleges in the United States today.
